Ah screw mental health

Sorry about the lack of posts lately. It's been taking all my energy to drag myself out of bed for the past month. Bit of advice: NEVER watch Grave of the Fireflies when you're feeling depressed. So here's a song to entertain you while I'm waiting for my meds to kick back in:

Family pictures

Shortly before we left Utah, we got some family portraits done. Since our wedding photos were lost in an episode of photographer stupidity, I wanted a more formal feel to them. These are some of the highlights of the session:

The parrot was the photographer's. Alana latched onto it and I wasn't sure if she was going to let us give it back.

On the recommendation of my sister-in-law, I went with Amy Springer at Tilt Photography. She was absolutely amazing. She worked really great with the kids (Liam was threatening to have a melt down at the beginning of the session but was perfectly fine after Amy drew him out of his shell.) and had the most reasonable rates of anyone I called. While comparing photographers I was appalled at some of the prices that people were asking, especially since several of them seemed nothing more than bored housewives with a good camera. I highly recommend Amy!

Where have you been all my life?

I decided to try out Pinterest. Seriously, how did I not know about this before? It's terrific. I'm using it more of a repository of all my bookmarks instead of an inspiration gallery, but even for that it's great. Now I can bookmark all I want without worrying about trying to find it again, or trying to remember what computer it was bookmarked on, or just finding that random thing I found on the internet that I was sure I was going to be able to search for again.

Those who are on it can you tell me how to follow/unfollow people? And also what happens if the item you pin gets deleted off the interwebs?

I heart Stephen Fry

I've been really boring lately and I figured you didn't want to hear about it. What, you expect me to blog more than once every month?

Few weeks I was lucky and noticed that Stephen Fry in America was starting on PBS on Sunday nights. So Justin and I had a QI marathon for a new hours before. We also found this on youtube (The singer, Molly Lewis, is also a fellow resident of Seattle):

I think this week is the last week and he's going to hit Washington and the rest of the West Coast plus Alaska and Hawaii. Last week he did Utah and ventured only as far in as Lake Powell (smart move, Fry, smart move). Mostly he's been very nice. I've been loving it and laughing my butt off with his snide remarks about the US and immigration and Foreign Policy and other idiosyncrasies of this country. Awesome.

If I had a million dollars, I'd buy your love.

Actually, not really. The problem being that I just discovered this website: yesstyle.com. I could seriously spend a million dollars there. It's a site of Asian designers and has some really great stuff. I ordered a few shirts from the designer Tokyo Fashion whose style is more of flow-y feminine blouses. The biggest problem that it's Asians designing for other Asians and a lot of the tops are one size fits all.........who wear a size zero. I've looked into some of the pants, and I'm going into the plus sizes (!) and have to check what I buy carefully.

To be fair, I do have to lose a few pounds. I left Utah with two goals: to lose my Utah accent and to lose 40 lbs. I've lost the accent already. I pick up and lose accents pretty easily (I left Singapore pronouncing some words very oddly) and I'm 5 lbs into my goal (yay YMCA!). When I finally slim down, I'll probably reward myself with some of the smaller shirts from yesstyle.

Yay! They finally broke the Harry Potter curse! If you don't know what I'm talking about, I give you the following record:

1. Sorcerer's Stone: Okay just because it was the first and Chris Columbus didn't have anything to work with. Also I'll give him props for casting all the main people and doing a @#$%$ good job about it.
2. Chambers of Secrets: The worst. Period.
3. Prisoner of Azkaban: This was my favourite for a long time. Probably because Alfonso Cuaron got the kids to finally ACT.
4. Goblet of Fire: This one is also in the running for the worst. The only reason I think that it's not is because the scene with Prof. McGonagall teaching the kids to dance was funny.
5. Order of the Phoenix: This one beat out the third. I think that it was a good balance between the book and cinematics.
6. Half-Blood Prince: Totally unmemorable. I've watched it many, many times, and I STILL can't remember anything about it.
7. Deathly Hallows: Part 1: This one was good. I liked a lot of it, and most of the failings of it stemmed from the book and it's weird pacing.

So every odd one was good, and the even ones kind of sucked (opposite of Star Trek). But hey, the eighth one was actually really good! I actually cried. I'm going to have to watch the fifth one again, but I think this one might have beat it. And I'm placing my bet now: Alan Rickman wins Best Supporting Actor next February. Go see it! Now!!

I'm off to see an early premier of Harry Potter at 6:30 tonight. This make 8/8 for me seeing all the Harry Potter movies on opening(ish) day!
